Max's first word
The photo displayed here is my son Max, age 5 and his Papi.
My son Max's first word was "Uh-Oh". Keep in mind that is two words and there are a few who seem to think what he said was more like "Oh-No". Also keep in mind some might disagree that those were even his first words. Well I was there and there is only one other person who is qualified to dispute me and I don't think she reads this blog. The event is now history.
History is writen by those who write it and not actually by the winners as is popularly quoted. All to often the winners can't be bothered to actually write it themselves and by default they become the editors of History. This is part of the Bureaucracy of winning.
I am the writer of this version of biograghical history. My "blogogrophry",if you will. I think I made that term up(?).* May the editor(s) be merciful.
Most parents, if you take the Ann Landers cliche to heart, are in a subtle compition over "Momma vs "Dadda" being baby's first word. I don't think Joy (Max's Mother and my ex-wife) and I were that concerned that we affirm his affections with that sort of entitlement. We were curuious of course to see which term he would first master (Momma or Dadda) but in the end Max's first word was neither. There was a tad bit of disapointment over what it actually was hoever. We were disapointed but not because he didn't say Momma or Dadda but because the word wasn't "mellosant"* or some other word equaly obscure, underused and advanced for a child of eight months. Well, I was anyway. I was rooting for deciduous. Joys opinions on the matter are unknown to me.
"Uh-Oh" however seems pleasingly apropriate upon gentle reflection in a number of ways.
1. Uh-Oh is slightly unique
2. Uh-Oh is cute
3. Uh-Oh, if taken as a metaphor, could be a bit of foreshadowing for his attitude over the course of the rest of his life. Max is a very itellegent and willful boy. People are afraid of both traits. I'm personaly pleased when I think of the topic that way.
According to recent reports from his maternal grandfather, Papi,(My father of course), he has had a few disipline problems in school. As far as I can tell from the fifth hand intelegence I tend to recieve on such issues, these "problems" stem from a willful personality and rebelious behavior. I am left to assume that this is met with concern and condemnation by those in direct authority over my son. I personaly swell with pride (Among other mixed emotions that I will not address here and now) when I hear this due to the fact it re-enforces another cliched axiom that axiom being "The apple don't fall far from the tree". I beleive the same has been said of me and I know it has of my Father.**
I am frankly surprised my Pop seems as concerned about it as he seems to be. I wouldn't expect that from a man who claims to have few close friends (I know for a fact he likes a lot more people than he will own up to), rides a Harley Davison Heritage and relishes his "Lone Wolf" reputation. Of course these days Pop seems to get a lot of his ideas about the world, right and wrong and general perspective on things from a women who has an agenda and takes copious amounts of psychotropic medications to smooth her steel wool personality (No I do not much care for my fathers second wife, an unfortunate comminality in our western word). If that statement seems acidic keep in mind that she and I stand opposed to each other on a number of issues and thus I have no intention of being any less venomous than is allowed by my vision of being faithful to the truth. It's my blog and if I say you are an ass or even a manipulative power mad bitch systematicly waging war on any opposition to your hidden motives to secure a seat as The Queen Bee of a White Trash Empire you can always talk about what a psychotic jack ass I am. You will most likely do so regardless.
Oops, I got a little distracted there. Bitterness is not a pretty trait and I hate that I wear it from time to time. What are ya gonna do? Blog! That's a way to get nasty emotions off ones chest thus here we are.
Unattractive personality characteristics aside I see "Uh-Oh" as a perfect precurser to what I hope will be a impute for Max. I hope to hear a lot of "Uh-oh, here comes Max" in the coming years.
Give'm Hell Boy.
*See, I told you to look for that word!
**I should, I said it.
